What should I do with my thermal bag once it arrives??

Unpack all of your meals and place them into your refrigerator. If you don’t plan to eat some of the meals before your next meal delivery, you may place it into your freezer to enjoy in the future, but note that the texture of some food may be affected (it will still taste delicious!)

What kinds of meals can I expect??

All of our meals are homemade by professional chefs that are passionate about creating dishes with the finest ingredients. Your meals will be inspired by a world menu and will be a perfect balance of protein, carbohydrates and fat with limited salt and sugar – and are 100% delicious! We ensure we use a variety of beans, vegetables, gluten-free grains (like quinoa and millet), nuts, seeds, herbs and spices.

We take pride in pushing the boundaries and ending all myths about vegan food when it comes to developing our menus. For this reason, we have included anything from a meatless meatball, to a lentil shepherds pie, to a cashew cream mac & cheese to a raw salad and to a millet/quinoa Mexican bowl. To ensure that your taste buds never get tired of the same old flavours, you won’t see the same meal twice in a month.

How do I reheat the meals??

All meals that need to be reheated will come in the black BPA-free, and microwave-safe containers. Our meals are designed to be heated in the microwave for about 2 minutes, since they already arrive fully cooked. All meals received in clear containers are often our salad bowls, and do not need to be reheated.

Can I freeze my meals??

For best flavour and presentation, we recommend refrigerating them, but you can certainly freeze them if you wish, especially if you plan to eat them after the recommended expiration date. (Read more at “How long do your meals last”)

How do I open the packaging and where does it go when I'm done??

Thermal Bags: Thermal bags can be left outside in your mailbox or on your porch before your next delivery. Upbeet Foods reuses these bags on a weekly basis in order to minimize waste.

Food containers: Once you’ve enjoyed your meal, rinse out the container and recycle or reuse. Containers do not have to be returned, and can be reused for your personal use. However, every so often we do hold charity give-away events where we offer to collect your cleaned containers to reuse!

How long do your meals last??

We recommend eating your meals by the end of the third day, but we find that most dishes last until the fourth day. This means, if you were to receive your meals on Monday, your meals would be fresh for use Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Your next delivery on Thursday, would then provide you with fresh meals for Thursday, Friday and Saturday. You are welcome to keep your meals for a fourth day at your own discretion.

How big are your portion sizes??

Each meal represents one portion and is good for one person. We often hear from our clients that the portions are good for 1 meal + a snack for later in the day. If you are interested in bulk meal booking for the week, please reach out to [email protected] to discuss your options. Nonetheless, we suggest trying our service for one week to see how the meal plan works for you!

I have food allergies and/or aversions. Will you customize my meals??

We do allow customers to let us know about food allergies or dislikes and we log the information in your customer profile. However today, we cannot customize to preference or allergies. What we can confirm is that we are 100% plant-based, gluten free, and dairy free.

Do you provide nutritional information for your food??

We currently do not offer nutritional information for our meals. However, we are working with a local nutritionist to help bring these to life on our website by mid 2017! On average our lunch/dinner meals range about 400-600 calories. Each meal is balanced to give you an appropriate amount of protein, carbohydrate, fiber and fat while staying low in salt and sugar.

Are your meals soy free??

Not all of our meals are soy free as we have found that many people following a plant-based diet do eat soy as a protein source. With that being said, we have also found that some customers have allergies to soy or a preference to not consume it, so we have made many of our meal options soy-free in order to accommodate.

When will you be 100% Organic and Non-GMO??

Today we are mostly organic and non-GMO, but we aim to be 100% by the end of this year. This is a work in progress for us! Thank you for your patience.

I’m not vegetarian. Will I like your food??

Yes! Many of our customers are not vegan/vegetarian and instead are flexitarians and love to consume our food for their healthy plant based meals fix for the week. Our meals are designed for all palates and welcome any dietary preference as they are inspired by a world eclectic menu. What snacks do you recommend that we eat??

If you are still hungry after your plant-based meals, you can add a small snack.

Here are some suggested snacks:

  • Nuts, raw and unsalted (portion size: ¼ cup)
  • A piece of fruit
  • Cut veggies with 2 tbsp. hummus
  • 1 tbsp. of nut butter with celery, apples, pears
  • Half serving of a smoothie
What are some Upbeet Foods-approved seasonings and spices??

Salsas (without the sugar), hot sauce (without the sugar) and mustards are great. A little table salt (we recommend sea salt), garlic salt, pepper, and most natural seasonings are fine. Some are also surprised to see that butter (as long as the only ingredients are butter and salt) and spices like cinnamon are fine as well. The main thing we are looking to avoid is sugar and high fructose corn syrup. That means ketchup, BBQ sauce, and other sugary dips and sauces are to be avoided.

Who are your customers??

Our client base varies from adult professionals, families, busy parents, university students, athletes, naturopaths, nutritionists and those who don’t have the time to prepare healthy, balanced and nutrient filled meals. In addition, we often cater events for schools, conferences, fundraisers, intimate functions, and weddings.

Am I getting enough protein from your meals??

Yes! There is a common myth that you cannot get enough protein from a vegan diet. In reality, eating a variety of beans, nuts, seeds and grains will give your body the protein it needs to keep energy levels up and build and keep muscle tone. Many people don’t realize that every food contains a bit of protein (even vegetables and fruit), so when you eat a healthy, balanced plant-based diet (like our meals) you’ll be getting protein from every vegetable, nut, seed and grain in each meal. Moreover, our meals are reviewed and vetted by professional nutritionists to ensure that you are receiving a well-balanced, nutritious and delicious meal!

How many calories are in your meals??

One of our goals at Upbeet Foods is to get you out of the mindset of calorie counting and into the mindset of “what is healthy for me?” If your focus is on eating clean and healthy plant-based meals, you will notice that you feel completely satisfied after a meal and that your body weight will return to a weight that is good for you. This may mean losing some weight, staying the same weight or in some cases gaining weight. For those that still choose to be calorie conscious, on average our lunch/dinner meals range about 400-600 calories.

All of our meals are designed to be a perfect balance of nutrients including vitamins, minerals and antioxidants so that you finish your meal feeling satiated and energized. Our goal is to deliver meals to you that boost your metabolism and leave you feeling alive!

Can kids eat our meals too??

Not only are the meals from our Vegan Meal Delivery perfectly safe for kids, but our children enjoy them as well! Depending on the age of your child, you may want to split the meal to create a smaller portion. As with any dietary modifications, we recommend that you check with your physician or primary health care provider first.

Do you cater??

Yes, we do cater! Feel free to email us at [email protected] to place your order today! We can cater for as little as 5, or up to 200 people today.

What if there is a problem with my meal(s)??

We want you to have nothing but the best experience with our meals. If you have any complaints, please let us know within 5 days of receiving your meals and we will try our best to help. Simply contact us via email at [email protected].

ORDERING

Can I order once or do I have to commit to a long plan??

We do not require any short term or long term commitments. You’re welcome to use our service once a month, every other week, or during those times that you could use some prepared meals to ease a busy week. We do still request your credit card information which is protected and securely stored with our payment gateway, Stripe. However, you can suspend or put your account on hold as many times as you would like. There is no hidden or additional fee for this!

How does the subscription work??

We are a subscription based meal delivery service. When you sign up with us your credit card information is requested, and thereafter you are charged every week at the same time. Each week you may go online to our weekly order page select the meals that you would like have delivered to your doorstep. Once your payment is successfully processed, our kitchen begins to prepare your meals which will then be packaged and delivered to you twice a week (Monday and Thursday) by default – unless, of course, you pause or cancel your subscription.

Our main goal is to get you food every week as seamlessly as possible!

When is the ordering deadline to sign up to a subscription??

The deadline for ordering each week is Thursday before midnight in order to receive your deliveries in the upcoming week. If you place your order on Friday, you will receive your first delivery the following Monday (week after next week) and will miss the upcoming weeks delivery.

How can I Suspend, Resume or Cancel my Account??

To SUSPEND, RESUME, or CANCEL your subscription, you must log in to your online account using the instructions in your confirmation email. Click into My Account and then Your Subscription Plan, then click View, to access the Suspend, Resume and Cancel options. If you are unable to access your account, or require assistance with these actions, you must send written notice via email to [email protected] Notice of intent to suspend or cancel any subscription must be received and confirmed as completed by an agent before the Cut-off time for the intended action.

I am going on vacation, when do I need to put my account on hold/suspend in order to avoid a charge??

Prior to your weekly scheduled charge.

*Your scheduled charge is at the same time every week as noted above. The date of your next charge can be found on the main page of your online account. We do not provide monetary refunds for subscriptions that are cancelled mid-cycle. At the time of cancellation, Upbeet Foods will complete any remaining deliveries that have already been purchased. If I am planning to cancel my account, when do I need to cancel in order to avoid the following weeks charge??

When is the ordering deadline for weekly meal selections/choices??

All meal selections/choices must be made by Thursday before midnight of each week. If you forget to place your meal selections for any given week, we will choose a selection of meals for you! Most of our clients prefer to have us choose their meals for them.

When is your new menu posted??

The new menu for the following week is posted each Sunday before midnight.

Can I cancel my order??

Once your credit card payment has gone through for your weekly delivery, your order cannot be cancelled. However, you may hold, cancel your account for any upcoming delivery. As long as the hold/cancellation is done before your payment date, you will be refunded 100% of your fee. If you cancel halfway through your cycle, you will receive a 50% credit on your account. We cannot refund a cancellation that is made after your credit card has been charged for the new delivery week.

How can I upgrade my subscription to a larger meal plan size??

To upgrade your meal plan to a larger size, i.e. from 6 meals to 8 meals, or 12 meals to 14 meals ETC., simply go into My Account, and click Your Subscription Upgrade and then select the meal plan size of your desire. Once you select your new meal plan size, your previous meal plan will automatically cancel, and your new plan will come into effect! If there are any issues with double charges, Upbeet Foods will 100% refund you correctly and fairly. For any other questions, please email [email protected] .

How many meals do you have in your collection??

Our meal database grows every week, as each week we add brand new meals to our menu! Currently, we have about 100 meals that change every week to ensure variety and customer excitement. To ensure that your taste buds never get tired of the same old flavours, you won’t see the same meal twice in a month.

PAYMENT

What forms of payment do you accept??

We accept:

  • Visa
  • MasterCard
  • American Express

We do not currently accept payments through third party services like PayPal or Google Wallet.

How much does an average meal cost??

We aim to make our meals affordable considering their convenience, quality, healthfulness, and lack of waste. Each meal is priced at $13 consistently.

Can I split up my payments among different cards??

Unfortunately, you are not able to split up a payment among different credit cards. Only one card can be used on one transaction.

How often am I charged for my meals??

We are a subscription service, so we charge you when you initially order a subscription and then every week thereafter. Your weekly charge will be processed 5-6 days before the delivery itself.

 

The charge will be applied to the default credit card listed on your account but if needed, you can easily add a new credit card to your account.

 

A few things would stop you from being charged:

Please also note, once you pause or cancel your subscription, you would not receive any further weekly charges without your permission.

What happens if I can’t be charged for an order??

If you can’t be charged for an order – for instance, your credit card expired – we would send you an email when we next try to charge you to let you know the charge was unsuccessful. From that point, you have 24 hours to update your credit card information so that, the next time we try to charge you, the charge will go through. We will try to charge you about three more times over that 24-hour period, before canceling the order, so, as long as you resolve the credit card issue by the deadline mentioned in the email we send, you’ll be good to go!

How much does shipping cost??

We deliver twice a week, on Monday and on Thursday. The delivery fee is $10 a week, or $5 per delivery drop. This fee is already accounted for when you initially choose your subscription plan type, and select delivery. If you arrange for a minimum of 3 friends to group your meal delivery at your office, delivery is free to your office address! How can I update my address or credit card information in My Account??

All you have to do is go into My Account, and then click on My Subscription plan. From here you can click on Address or Creditcard and update the information as you wish!

DELIVERY

Where and when do you deliver??

Please see our delivery page for more information on delivery! Click here. We delivery every Monday and Thursday morning between 6:30am-10:00am.

What should I expect upon delivery??

Upon checkout there is a notes section where you may indicate your delivery instructions and additional instructions, i.e. buzzer code, parking instructions, where to leave the thermal bag etc.

For home delivery, we will leave the thermal bag at your door or porch. Your meals will remain fresh for up to 3 hours after delivery. If you will not be home between that 3-hour window, please update your address to another address or your office, to ensure the meals are moved to a refrigerator as soon as possible.

If you live in a condo/apartment, please ensure that your concierge is aware of our delivery. Many times we are not permitted to drop coolers with reception or in front of your doorstep. If this is the case, please update your address on our backend, at least 4 days before your next delivery.

Upon delivery, you will receive a thermal bag with all of your meals in it. Please move all meal containers to the refrigerator, and note that empty thermal bags are to be left outside at your next delivery date for your driver to pick up.

Is there an option for Upbeet to deliver to my office??

Yes, we just need your cell phone number and clear instructions for parking, entering the building and delivering the thermal bag. If we cannot leave the package with your receptionist, we will be unable to deliver the thermal bag to your office. Please check with your office in advance. Also note, if you get 3 or more people to order from Upbeet Foods from your office, the delivery charge to your office address is waived for all orders! (This is a savings of $10+HST each week)

When should I expect my delivery??

Your Vegan Meal Delivery shipment will arrive before 10 AM on the Monday and on the Thursday morning of each week.

Do you ship the food??

Not currently. We deliver via vehicle drop off.

What should I do if I’m going on vacation??

Not a problem! We understand that everyone takes vacations from time to time. You can pause your meal plan delivery as long as you do it before your next payment date. Your next payment date can be seen in your “My Account” section once you login. If your credit card has already been charged we cannot guarantee a full refund, but please do email us at [email protected] and we will do our best to accommodate.
